Henry ‘Milo’ Steinborn was a German weightlifter and strongman born in 1893. Steinborn was a big proponent of the flat footed squat , and is often credited as introducing/popularizing this form of squat in the U.S. At the time the squat was performed with heels together and on tip toes, which greatly reduces how much weight you can use. Steinborn’s best recorded Squat was 550lb (250kg) for 5 reps, performing this lift unassisted without any supports or wraps.Steinborn would up end the loaded barbell lean under it hoisting it across his shoulders. The Steinborn lift is still contested today, but to my knowledge no has matched this feat.
